Putting a face to the voice … well in this case a face to the words, always makes things much more personal.
What would I be without a personality but a lump and well lumps don’t get very far, especially in cake!
My name is Aaron McInnis, I am a self-taught baker and specialty cake decorator. I am located in Conception Bay South, Newfoundland, an island as far east in Canada as you can go! I am married to an amazingly supportive wife and we have 3 very energetic boys!
I started cake decorating as a means to help me pay for Post-Secondary Education and love and excitement about cake grew from there. When I finished my education finding work in my field wasn’t the easiest task and I leaned on cakes in order to support my family. I had a storefront for about 2 years but given the nature of the business and the economy it was not feasible to keep it running while raising a young family. I have since returned to the workforce full time as a Nutritionist in the field of Mental Health! I am still a baker and caker at heart and I plan on sharing this journey with you. I am the proud owner of Happy Belly Cakery, a home based cakery where I pride myself on the quality and service I provide to my amazing clients.
I absolutely love what I do and couldn’t think of any better way to support my family.
Why do I do this ?!
To prove to my boys that, (a) supporting your family “Like a man” doesn’t always mean grease stained hands or saw dust in your hair. Sometimes it means food color stained hands and flour everywhere. Supporting your family means that you do whatever you feel passionate about, whatever makes you happy, and whatever you have to too ensure you’re providing a safe environment for them to learn, develop and grow.
(b) to show them that pursuing a dream is not always going to be easy, itβs a long, tough road and that as long as you are willing to put in the time, the energy and most of all, the hard work, you can achieve anything your heart desires!
And (c) because I love to teach and help others grow into who they want to become, without the love and support of you than there certainly wouldn’t be a place for me
The cake world is heavily topped by strong, creative and very talented women, I want to be THE next big male cake name in North America … (and then take on the world!) I want to support and be supported by those leading ladies and prove that men can be just as creative in the kitchen as our female counterparts.
I don’t want to be the worldβs best kept secret so be sure to invite your friends along for all the fun
I will be creating fun and unique cakes but still spending time on some of the more classic techniques, adding my own twists and sharing tips and tricks to help you in your caking journey.
Let’s test out your comment section… π
Thanks for the test π
This is great!
Who’s the man? You’re the man. Blog looks great! Keep on keepin on!
Thank you ma’am π
It’s certainly a labour of love and my hat’s off to all those power bloggers out there!
How have I not heard of you yet!!!! Did I just crawl out from under a rock or what! I’m so excited to have another pro to follow. Thank you for sharing your gifts. (And I love your comment about teaching your boys – I always wanted my son to be “gentle but strong.” That is just the gift I have in him. He is a grown gentle giant.) Can’t wait to watch all of your videos and follow you.
How can I subscribe to receive information about the fondant recipe and tutorial?
Hey Cindy! You can get it now here: https://manversuscake.com/product/effortless-ribbon-rosette-ruffles/
You are the man!!!! Keep giving those wonderful tutorials!!
Hi Aaron I’ve purchased your tutorial and I’ve received the PDF file which is great lots of information but where do I find the video please ?
Thank you for your help
Lorraine.
Hi Lorraine
Thank you so much for your order
The video link should be on the second page of the PDF along with the password
Please let me know if you have any other trouble π
Hi Aaron
Thank you for getting back to me, I’ve found the links and done what you said but where do I past them? I do have a Vimeo account but I don’t know where to past the link.
Sorry for being such a dumb nut but I don’t seem to be able to figure this one out I’m probably missing something really simple but what it is I’ve got no idea
Again thank you for taking the time to help
Lorraine .
Ahh don’t be so foolish that is what I’m here for π
Copy them and paste them into the address bar (where you would type manversuscake.com, for example)
That will take you directly to the video
Then when you are there copy and paste the password into the password box and you’re in π
It’s me again, just wanted to say thank you for being so patient and explaining how I got to see the video. Which may I say was great although a little scary too, but as I’ve never done the ruffled rose I haven’t got any pre set idea on how to go about it. I will definitely be giving it a go but on a small dummy first and I need to have a go at making your fondant too, I see scary fun ahead but that is what pushing yourself is all about
Thank you lorraine π
you are more than welcome, I am glad we were able to sort it out π
You will do great! It all take time and patience, and of course practice.
Please don’t hesitate to ask questions π

Hi Lia
That all sounds truly amazing, and so awesome youβre using berries you picked yourself!
Would love to see the finished tart.
And I hope it was as delicious as youβd hoped.
