Baking from the heart… Icing Smiles Canada

June 18, 2017 by Aaron 3 Comments

As humans we are constantly looking to fullfil the need to help. To make a difference and have a real purpose in the world we live.
There is always a struggle of when to give, where to give, and how to fit it all in!

The desire to give back is hightened when you become a business owner. To support the community that supported you is how I feel I show my appreciation and love for where I’ve come from.

It’s certainly not possible to give to every fund raiser or every charity event, as much as I would love too. We have to remember that at the end of the day, this is also business, certainly not a million dollar enterprise, but a way to feed my children, put them in their activities and put a roof over their heads.

My children are the driving force behind the business, they are what keep me going and the reason I give so much. It is because of my children that I often choose charities and organizations that are child focused. So when I heard about Icing Smiles Canada I knew I had to be a part of it.

Icing Smiles is a nonprofit organization that provides custom celebration cakes and other treats to families impacted by the critical illness of a child. We understand that the simple things, like a birthday cake, are luxuries to a family battling illness. Our goal is to create a custom cake for the ill child, or their sibling, that provides a temporary escape from worry and creates a positive memory during a difficult time. We feel strongly that siblings are the unsung heroes in these families. They consistently put their own lives on hold and sacrifice the attention of their parents while their families are helping the medical child.

There are two different types of cakes that a family can request.

The dream cake – a tiered or sculpted cake that offers a WOW factor in the theme of the child’s choice.

The fun cake – is a sheet or one tier cake decorated the the theme of the child’s choice.

When you register as a baker to “create a smile” you are inevidedbly signing up to become a sugar angel! Your volunteered time and cake can mean the world to the family of a sick child!

Are you a family in need of a smile? Or know someone who is? Have them register through “receive a smile” and Icing Smiles will connect them with a baker in their area.

If you are not in Canada, there is a division of Icing Smiles also located in the US. Outside of here I am not too sure if there are other programs offered, reach out to your local hospitals and charity organizations and see if there is any way you can help!

The children are our future, and the old saying is true, it takes a village to raise one. Taking even the slightest stress away from a family of a sick child is such an amazing feeling. They are all doing the best they can with the hand they were dealt.

Stay tuned for my call to action. I was recently called upon to put on my wings and help the sweetest little heart warrior.
